Coppersmithing — like weaving, pottery, and agriculture — is one of the oldest arts. 
Copper has been the metal of choice among metalsmiths for 6,000 years because copper endures. It is our hope that your selection will become a family heirloom.
Hugh Guilderson, a third generation architectural metalsmith, worked his way through college by learning the family trade. After a career in construction management, he earned a Ph.D. and taught college-level history for 14 years. In retirement he picked up his tools again and began to create his own designs.
Each piece is made of solid copper and follows the principles of traditional design — clarity, unity, and balance — to make useful objects that are reminiscent of classic periods in several cultures.
No two pieces of the same model are exactly alike.
Every piece is designed for ease of use and made to last a lifetime, and bears his maker’s mark, a tradition among metalworkers for centuries.
